If you live along the St. Johns River, the water isn't done rising. Runoff from Monday's catastrophic flooding in southern Brevard County keeps moving north, and FOX 35 reports flood warnings remain in effect for Cocoa, Geneva, Sanford, DeLand and Astor. The sky may be dry, but the river didn't get the memo.

Near Sanford, the river stood at about 5.1 feet Thursday, with minor flooding forecast. It's expected to reach about 6.4 feet Monday evening, approaching the point where some low-lying homes in and Stillbrook could see water intrusion. WKMG says the St. Johns near Cocoa is expected to crest in major flood stage Friday, higher than the Hurricane Ian flood.

  • Geneva: could approach major flood stage early next week
  • DeLand: river reached flood stage at 4 feet Thursday
  • Duration: the slow-moving river may stay flooded for weeks
  • Boating restrictions: Astor, Lake Monroe and Mullet Lake

  3. Nov. 6The St. Johns near Cocoa is expected to crest in major flood stage.
  4. Nov. 9The St. Johns near Sanford is forecast to reach about 6.4 feet in the evening.

Volusia County officials say the impact will be felt most toward the end of the week, and they're urging riverside residents to fill sandbags and stock several days of supplies. We'd steer clear of barricades and flooded roads, and check the National Weather Service river forecasts before you head out.

Dan and Brenda Watts grabbed 20 pre-filled sandbags for their home off Circle. They lived through Hurricane Ian and say the river is about two-and-a-half feet lower now, but the memory was enough to send them to the site.

“It sticks in your brain when you’re watching the river get closer and closer to your house.”

Dan Watts, Lake Harney resident

In Osteen, the county's self-service site is open daily until further notice.
