Sandbag sites are open in Sanford, Geneva and Osteen as the St. Johns rises
The Daily Sanford team
If your yard backs up to the St. Johns, you can pick up sandbags in Sanford, Geneva or Osteen. Seminole County Emergency Management set up two pickup sites as the river rises, and Volusia County runs a self-service site in Osteen.
Three sandbag sites are open around the St. Johns
| Site | Address | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Boombah Sports Complex overflow lot | 3325 Cameron Ave., Sanford | 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. |
| Old Geneva Volunteer Fire Station | 217 2nd St., Geneva | 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. |
| Next to Volusia Fire Rescue Station 36 | 180 N. State Road 415, Osteen | 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
Dan and Brenda Watts grabbed 20 pre-filled sandbags for their home off Lake Harney Circle. They lived through Hurricane Ian and say the river is about two-and-a-half feet lower now, but the memory was enough to send them to the site.
“It sticks in your brain when you’re watching the river get closer and closer to your house.”
In Osteen, the county's self-service site is open daily until further notice.
Seminole sites stay open longer each day than Osteen's
