CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 55-year-old Lake Mary man named Joseph Kinney was arrested Monday after he used a stolen identity to apply for nursing jobs at facilities in Seminole and Orange counties—he now faces two counts of practicing health care without a license following a controlled interview set up after suspicious applications were flagged. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Since Monday, consumers in Florida have been able to purchase qualifying hunting, fishing and camping gear tax free until Dec. 31—eligible items include firearms, ammunition and camping equipment. WESH
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Sanford had a chance to speak at a Monday night city hall meeting before commissioners voted on a fire assessment fee that will cost an average homeowner about $85 a year. The city is holding its first public hearing on next year's budget and millage rate, and the proposed $224.6 million budget will raise ad valorem taxes by roughly $57.26 for a single-family home—final input on these measures will be accepted on Sept. 22.
