CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Seminole County deputies arrested 20-year-old Patrick Gamache after a witness called 911 around 4 p.m. Monday when she saw him assault a woman on the Seminole Wekiva Trail near SR-434 and Douglas Ave—the victim said he grabbed her in a bear hug and demanded she order him an Uber ride before fleeing, and Gamache now faces charges of sexual assault and battery with an arraignment set for Sept. 30. - ➤ Authorities arrested two people for leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash on Saturday at 9:46 p.m. on U.S. 17-92 near Spartan Drive—FHP said a 2016 BMW X6 struck a Winter Springs bicyclist who died at the scene. WESH
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Even though Hurricane Erin was hundreds of miles away, the coast near Ponce Inlet and Daytona Beach experienced higher tides with waves reaching the dunes—Beach Safety Deputy Chief AJ Miller said the minor dune damage has held up well. The county noted that a new berm and recently planted dune vegetation have performed as intended while the Army Corps moved sand to rebuild the dunes along the shore. WESH
