  • Fifty-five sloths died in unsuitable conditions at a never-opened Orlando attraction, sparking demands for tougher exotic animal regulations. Officials and animal experts are reviewing changes after deaths from 2024 through early 2026, with surviving animals now cared for at a local zoo.  WESH

  • Lovebugs are returning in our local area as recent moisture boosts larvae survival—UF expert Dr. Norman Leppla noted that while sightings remain limited, drivers may soon see more cases of car paint damage.   WKMG
  • Record heat gripped Central Florida yesterday with temperatures nearing 95 degrees, and a fire weather watch was in effect (noon to 8 p.m.) over several counties. Today, scattered afternoon storms are expected to bring relief as the region shifts into a typical summer pattern.  WESH

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of 124,560 ZMC Group light-up toys sold at discount stores from May 2023 to April 2026 due to battery access risks. Sanford residents should remove these toys, call 888-407-3225 for refund details, and follow safety instructions (remove or mark the toy) promptly.  WFTV
